Cosmetic Dentistry

Tooth Whitening

Picture

Cosmetic dentistry is a discipline within dentistry in which the primary focus is the modification of appearance of a patient’s oral cavity and surrounding structures, in conjunction with the prevention and treatment of organic, structural, or functional oral disease. Through cosmetic dentistry, the appearance of the mouth can be altered to more closely match the patient’s subjective concept of what is visually pleasing
Teeth Whitening is the most commonly prescribed cosmetic dental procedure. While many whitening options are now available, dentist-supervised treatments remain the recommended procedures for lightening discolored teeth.

Tooth whitening can help ward off the embarrassment of yellow teeth that shows up as a result of natural aging process or discoloration due to stains occurred by over-consumption of tea, coffee and cola. Teeth whitening procedures can not only lend you that smart, younger look but also can pep up your confidence level and thus your self esteem.
At Dr. Pandit’s, we use the BriteSmile teeth whitening system which is clinically proven to be safe, and the benefits can last for years.

Procelain Veneers / Indirect Laminates

Picture
In dental terminology, “veneers” or “laminates” means a covering on the front side of a tooth for its cosmetic enhancement. With the advancement in technology, several different materials have been developed over the years for the purpose of making a veneer. PorcelainVeneers are very thin pieces of durable, tooth shaped porcelain that are custom made by a professional dental laboratory.

These can completely reshape your smile and individual teeth. They can be used to cover small imperfections and defects, and to mask stains or discolored teeth. Porcelain/ceramic veneers can also be used as alternatives to crowns and to cover previous discolored fillings. Teeth which are permanently discolored /stained are ideal candidates for porcelain veneers. Veneers are frequently utilized for filling the spaces that lie between teeth. They are very durable and will last many years, giving you a lasting and beautiful smile

 Direct Laminates / Composite Laminates

Composite LaminatesAlso known as : Directly fabricated veneers:

These are composite resin materials applied to the tooth surface freehand by the clinician.

Direct composite veneers

Primary indications for direct composite labial veneers

  • White spot lesions.
  • Severe fluorosis discoloration.
  • Severe hypo plastic discoloration.
  • Because the discoloration is confirmed entirely to enamel and never extends into dentin.
Choice to composite materials:

If occlusion is normal and no stresses on the restorations the light - cured micro-filled composite material is the choice because of their superb polishability and overall esthetic acceptability. If occlusal factors are more demanding the Hybrid material would be the better choice.

Indications of direct veneers

  • Patients's who exhibit significant wear of anterior teeth caused by occlusal stress.
  • Low cost
Advantages of direct veneers

  • Can mask dark stains more esthetically than direct bonding.
  • No anesthesia usually required.
  • Can easily be repaired in the mounth if and when staining or chipping occurs.
  • More consservative- Less tooth reductoion than crowing.
  • Usually use experience.
  • Color change possible.
  • Less faigue to the patient and easliy manipulated.

Disadvantages of direct veneers

  • Required two visits.
  • Greater expense than bonded composites.
  • More prone to chosive fracture  than procelian veneers.
  • Can be irreversible procedures it much enamel is removed
  • Not as strong as procelain laminate.
  • Comparable esthetics to porcelain but not comparable clinical longevity.
